people who buy netbooks are not exactly chasing after performance and usability anyway. any person who thought that it's sensible to run a behemoth like windows 7 on a 1.6ghz single core processor needs a kick in the crotch.

Using binary blobs is hardly a solution, too, since they work on a select few configurations.
And no, it's not out of date. GMA500 could be, but GMA600 is new and part of the Oak Trail platform launched in the 3rd quarter of 2011, I believe.

Well intel wants Android support for this kind of hardware or the next gen of it. Most likely closed source however.

Poulsbo is extremely out of date by now. Thankfully I don't think the PowerVR trend within Intel has continued into actually good hardware (current-gen).
