    Yesterday's announcement of Microsoft and Nokia hooking up over Windows Phone 7 on Nokia's smart-phone has rattled the free software / Linux communities. There's more than 100 comments in our forums about this announcement and this isn't the only tech community where there are outraged customers and other parties disappointed in Nokia's decision. In particular, many are upset because with Nokia's decision it basically pushes the MeeGo Linux operating system and the Qt tool-kit to the back-seat...

    it's always worth a punt i guess if you have stock especially if you like shorting etc, keep in mind he more than likely get's an auto allocation of Nokia shares as CEO later too.

    More info on Elop's MSFT shares.

    Does that hold any value in investigating whether the whole agreement was in the "stakeholders' best interest"? And I mean Nokia's...

    My response, for what it is worth, is that while this is definitely not a result i ever wanted to see, it is worth remembering that Nokia will still be investing >around< half a billion annually in the broader MeeGo ecosystem after this change in direction.

    While MeeGo is not now going to become one of the 'big-three' or the lead Nokia platform, it probably does have a healthy a viable future as a niche platform.

    Yeah sure I use their drivers and will continue to recommend their hardware because of it, but they won't do a good job on anything 'large'.
