I don't think there are many people that will not say that Win 11 is a step back from Win 10 and Win 7, and probably on par for lousiness with Win 8.

Be that as it may, what do you mean by "before you let MS spy on your Wifi"?

How does MS spy on your wifi?

What happens if you don't let them spy?

I have installed Win 11 a number of times and I do not recall any requirement that MS or Windows spy on the wifi connection.

That;s very impressive considering the 7950x3d is 16C/32T with a base clock of 4.2ghz.

Imagine what Qualcomm's processors could do with a fully optimized software stack or were they will be in a few years.

Well, unless you hand over your wifi password (or have another inet connection) you will not be able to use the device.
As a next step you need to create a MS account, or you won't be able to use the device (the method to bypass this has been
removed from w11 24h2) by default the wifi password
(and apparently everything else you were dumb enough to set up with the wizard) is stored in this account, i.e. handed over
to MS servers and therefore needs to be considered compromised.

Imagine what AMD might be able to do with ARM64.

I'm a bit sceptical about using compilation speed as a benchmark to compare different architectures. The x86 backend in gcc is
far more complex than the arm64 one, so it stands to reason that it will take a bit longer to build code for x86 than for arm64.
My other benchmark is basically reading 256MB of csv data and preparing an SQL to inject that into a database.
The 7950x finishes in 500/220ms while the X1E-78 finishes in 700/710ms (non-PGO/PGO, yes the PGO arm64 build is sometimes also slower).

Hey Michael I just wanted to say I appreciate your work man. No one is mad at you for not having immediate access to a Lunar Lake laptop because Intel didn't send you one. It is OK. It is OK.

          What?!?

No matter what OS you use you have to enter the wifi password to connect, Win 11 is no different that any other OS, including Linux, in this regard.

As for needing an MS account, easily bypassed by not having an active internet connection during install.

Turn off the router and do not connect an internet capable either and you can install without an MS account.

Got a Prestige-13-AI-Evo-A2VMG-014US. I can boot after disabling secure boot. Three main problems: resolution blocked at 800x600 on both Ubuntu kernel 6.8 and 6.11 (I'm not sure how to force probe). No Wi-Fi (it seems to be a problem of firmware not available). No touchpad (arghh, that's going to be painful). Is there a page to share finding how to get a working Linux image on those new laptops?

phoronix I just got Fedora 31 Beta running on the Asus Zenbook 14 S UX5406 with the graphics force probed.

              What is working:
              - Graphics at 2880x1800 @ 120Hz
              - Keyboard lights / most Fn keys
              - Camera
              - Wifi

              What is not working:
              - Bluetooth
              - Audio

Here are the steps that I took to reach this point:
              • Created a partition through Windows (250GB) to play around with Linux
              • I installed Fedora 41 beta iso on a USB drive with Fedora Tool.
              • Change boot order in bios to USB drive
              • Installed Fedora successfully and suprisingly quickly but with a lot of initial quirks
                • No wifi, graphics drivers not loaded
              • Connected my mobile phone through USB hotspot to device for internet
              • Updated packages, rebooted and wifi started working
              • Enabled graphics in kernel for this device through force_probe:
                • `sudo grubby --args="i915.force_probe=!64a0 xe.force_probe=64a0" --update-kernel=ALL`
              • For some reason I also had to remove rhgb (I also removed quiet) for it to actually boot into the UI (it was stuck on the spinner if I didn't)
                • `sudo grubby --remove-args="rhgb quiet" --update-kernel=ALL`

Rebooted my computer and success, graphics now seem to work! I'm writing this from the Asus Zenbook 14 S UX5406.

you quoted out of context: I also wrote that this pw is then _by_default_ stored in the ms account -> hence MS knows my wifi pw.
I know that my linux distro does _not_ upload my wifi password to any internet server.

And no, you can no longer bypass the account creation wiht 24H2.

you know what is the biggest joke ... Microsoft target children with their wrongdoing.

for example if a children want to play minecraft on linux with a controller means not with keyboard and mouse the java version of minecraft does not support anything else than keyboard and mouse on linux.

on windows 11 the minecraft version in the appstore is the dx12 native windows version with full controller support. linux people could play this version with Proton/DXVK but you can not download and install the dx12 windows version you can only download and use the java version on linux.

its really bitter that children who use linux gets bullied by microsoft.
