Phoronix: Framework Laptop 13 With Intel Core Ultra Series, 2.8K 120Hz Display

Back in May the folks at Framework Computer announced Framework Laptop 13 support for the Intel Core Ultra Series 1 (Meteor Lake) alongside announcing a new 2.8K 120Hz display option, a new web camera upgrade, and new colors for their expansion cards. Today marks the review embargo expiration with the hardware now shipping. Here's my initial look at the Intel Core Ultra Series (Meteor Lake) within the confines of the modular and upgradeable Framework Laptop 13.

So you'd have to be nuts, or relying super-heavily on an NPU to consider "upgrading" from the Ryzen board to the Core Ultra one. Still, good to know. Now if Framework would just sell me that 2.8K screen....

I know PTS doesn't cover it, but did you see anything interesting in temps or fan speeds? The Core Ultra might be somewhat redeeemed if it was cooler/quieter than the Ryzen setup, or battery life was much better.

Super cool in the sense that this article really touches on the core philosophy and user benefit. Easy end user upgrades (even if this particular example is a mixed bag on the mobo swap).

I thought that was funny, too. I wonder what the performance difference the other monitor has on both processors. That'd be an interesting 4-way test.

I wish there were more things like the ThinkBook Plus Gen 3. Something like that with AMD hardware would be awesome.

I think it's pretty nice in regards to being able to buy which CPU/GPU combination that suits your needs. The AMD option is still available and you can use the better monitor with it, too.

Toss Dasharo on that and i'd be salivating for it. A closed source BIOS is a non starter for me.

There are a lot of interesting designs like that which I've been tempted by, but I know the Linux support would be shit .
