One would think attaching keyboard to a PC was already solved decades ago and all possible connection variants already plumbed. But no, can never have enough, new, proprietary exotic keyboard connections in 2020. Innovation.

As the OP underlines, on notebooks there is not a single one "is", I certainly know about this and a handful other variants. My point still stands ;-) PS: the patch and this variant is not about embedded controllers, but reporting physical button layout in some vendor specific HID report quirkery.

I guess it is a combination of the special top row keys that need to trigger platform functions via embedded controllers and/or/not need be exposed via HID but aren't in a standard yet.
