Great to see a sleek laptop with open-source firmware on both host* and EC side, reduced/disabled ME, and designed to run Linux.

*as open as it can get on x86 these days, anyway

Why does it have a MicroSD Card reader, a HDMI port, a headphone/microphone combo and a separate AC connector? There are adapters for all of this and one could go down the road like Apple with their MacBook with a single USB-C port. Obviously, many customers value the variety of ports one can access without buying, carrying around and plugging in adapters.

AMD and Intel CPUs have supported mixed dual-channel mode for quite some time.

Intel hardware can dualchannel with different sized sticks since a long while, with "flex memory" feature http://www.laptopmemoryupgrades.co.u...ory-technology

But apart from that, it's probably just to save some bucks, RAM is expensive

Sounds sweet, but I would have to upgrade. Once you've tried 16gb of memory on a laptop you'll never want to downsize.
