With our early benchmarking of Ubuntu 20.04 in its current nearing the end of development state, we've been seeing Ubuntu 20.04 boosting Intel Xeon Scalable performance, running well with AMD EPYC Rome, and good AMD Ryzen performance, among other tests. Strangely though the one platform where I've found Ubuntu 20.04 hard regressing so far is with the Dell XPS 7390 Ice Lake...

Same feeling here with an XPS 13 7390 2in1, even on a kernel 5.6.2.

Too bad, because this laptop is even more supported with 20.04 (example latest libwacom 1.3)... but camera still not working

Huh. I wonder if this is impacting my HP Spectre or if it's specific to Ice Lake. I run Ubuntu 18.04, but I tend to use mainline kernel builds.

I'm running the XPS 13 9380, and it's working great. Webcam has always worked and everything else works well. Ran Ubuntu before, then Manjaro but running Ubuntu 20.04 to great success (with KDE Plasma, in 2020 it's fantastic, but offtopic). I love it .

Will see if I can run benchmark and see what happens.

I see the same issue with Dell Inspiron 3493 with I5-1035G4, runs like a dog and pauses constantly.

It worked better if I used a 5.3 kernel from Ubuntu 19.10

Do you see any errors in `journalctl` when it "pauses"?

The sample Dell is a very new & physically tiny 13 inch SUBNOTEBOOK. This creates several problems.
1) COOLING is compromised, by space volumes, channel flows, noise & battery drainage.
2) Specialized latest hardware is small sized, power-use compromised & requires special drivers.
3) This whole setup is optimised for Microsoft Windows
4) Being newly released, there are the usual BIOS updates coming.
5) Linux hardware drivers are non-existent or poor functioning.
6) Exotic hardware demands specially written code & drivers.
7) External fans for the subnotebook will avoid heat throttling.
8) If performance is preferred over battery consumption, tweaks are needed.
9) Tweaking Linux is easy: latest low latency Linux kernel.
10) Hardware tweaks include undervolting, etc.
