For sure, on paper anyways. I'm curious what the battery life is like. I've been using an i3 Chromebook as my low cost Fedora laptop for a few years now and it's been great. At the time, nothing could match it at the $199 price point. This Motile sure looks like a modern alternative. Honestly though, the Chromebook has been fantastic, with the 4 GB fixed memory being the only real limitation/drawback. I get ~10 hours of light office type tasks on a battery charge, I'd be surprised of this Motile can top that.

Due to post-sale monetization, most likely any Windows-free option would be more expensive, not less.

I was thinking $10 less as its possible to get full copy of Windows 10 pro for about $13

Whatever it is, probably can't imagine it being much different really to be worth it. Its better to has the other OS if needing it (besides for those with attitude problems that can't deal with it).

Not legally it isn't, those are all volume licenses etc.... most of the companies selling such licenses get shut down in a couple years. One big one is in a major battle with MS right now.

It would definitely be more expensive. Windows sales are subsidized either by deals with Microsoft, or preinstalled crapware, or both in some cases. And yes you can get a key for $13. But you should know those are usually fraudulently sold multiple times. Assuming the key hasn't been blocked already, once you do activate it you may never be able to use that again even on a reinstall on the same hardware because there's a limit to the number of times you can activate a key. Activations are tied to the hardware. I've seen that quite often and it's a common scam. The only legitimate keys are the prices Microsoft sets and allows. Anything else you're taking your chances on a fraudulent sale and potentially up the creek without a paddle at some awkward time.

How does this compare to a Pinebook pro?

My DIMMs are coming tomorrow. On Reddit is where I had read someone upgraded theirs to dual channel thus wondering now who is right.

From the article, I just followed Michael's hyperlink to WalMart, and discovered from WalMart's customer reviews for this product that it has a back-lit keyboard!
                      4G / 128G / 1080P display / back-lit keyboard, and $199, brand-new? Sounds like the perfect Linux laptop, to me.
                      Thanks, Michael.
