The majority of Sailfish OS is built using source code which is available under an open source license.

Nice that they finally got the fingerprint reader working on the Xperia X and added support for the dual SIM model, but kind of odd that they still haven't gotten something as basic as the compass to work completely. It does now work in Google Maps, so they're definitely getting there, but you'd think the compass would be pretty simple to get working considering the Chinese first invented it about 200 BC (thou it wasn't used for navigation until the 11th century).

You probably know it already, but the electronic compass is a chip and requires a specific protocol and driver to be operated.

The problem is, there just aren't many 2nd century BC Chinese scientists running around anymore. Not to mention the whole patent and royalty issue - a 2200 year quagmire.
