And you can guarantee everybody has read articles from months back? Not everybody here goes back that far. Plus sitting quiet on a issue never gets anything resolved or changed.

Just wondering, but why the hell is everybody bitching about over "LGP brings DRM to Linux"? That statement is just plain wrong.
I just think most of you have absolutely no clue what either DRM or the LGP copy protection system is (ffs it just checks your copy by connecting to the server!) and are just p*ssed of that they now have to pay for their Linux games.
If you do know where the difference is but have other reasons for bitching around, then tell me please, but many of the posters above don't seem to do so.

Sorry but you are wrong. DRM is Digital Rights Management. Digital rights management seeks authorization to run an application or media from a venders server that authorizes you to run the application. This is EXACTLY what LGP's system does.

Copy protection on the other hand prevents a 1:1 copy of the original media or requires a valid key to be presented to the executables before it can be ran or installed and those keys are verified as valid though a key algorithm. LGP's new system does not prevent the making of backups at all.

It must be said though that they are not the first to utilize a form of DRM in linux. Many commercial applications have been using it for years. Even Doom 3 and later kin prompted you for a key that was then checked with their servers to see if the key was in use or had been blacklisted. These applications though however would never ask you to reauthorize if it could not get through to their servers on their specific ports. They would simply time out and continue on.

Nobody is pissed that they have to pay for the games. That is a expectation that honest people live by. It doesn't piss off the pirates either though as it just gives them another reason to laugh at such measures and they will have it running without issue within hours of release. All it does is piss off the honest people who did purchase the game because they are the only ones being hassled (many to the point where they say screw it and run a crack on their legit copy anyways).
