Phoronix: Open-Source Serious Engine 1 Now Running On Linux

Last month Croteam open-sourced the Serious Engine 1 with the original support for Windows. Now though Serious Engine 1 with its open-source code-base is running along on Linux and OS X...

The games are on Steam, they should upload the linux binaries too.

It might depend on who owns the distribution rights for linux whether or not it'll appear on Steam - lets hope they get it sorted

One would quietly assume that if they have the rights to open source the game/engine they'd have control over steam version

This article seems not to be seriously professional.
Can you tell what this "serious engine 1" is by reading the article alone?
No, you cannot unless you already know it.
Was is that difficult to add a simple "a gaming oriented rendering engine at its first major release" (or something better)?
I forgot: everyone here knows about every single technology...

Not necesseraly - they'll own the code to do with that they like, but if they've sold the rights to distribute the Linux versions of the games based on the engine they won't be able to

He covered it recently; and I expect that a large number of Phoronix readers were already familiar with it. For everyone else, there is also Google, and DuckDuckGo for people who won't Google.
Serious engine (1) is the engine which powered/powers Serious Sam; one of the hottest game releases of 2001. Croteam, the developers of the engine, released the source code to it recently. Ryan C. "Icculus" Gordon was contracted to port this game to Mac OS X and Linux back while it was still selling well. Ryan wanted to release his Linux and OS X ports of the game, and it seems now that he got permission and also did the work of updating his patches to work with the version they opened up.

Remember that others may know exactly what he is talking about, while you may not know that this is not the "first major release" of the engine.
