Phoronix: A Linux Gamer's Review of Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor

A little under a year after its release, Feral Interactive have brought OS X and Linux users a new game to play… And thanks to Michael I spent all of Friday night and most of Saturday binge-playing Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor.

To 100% the main campaign (all collectibles and side quests) it looks like it'll take me about 28hrs. This doesn't include the DLC you get nor every achievement. I'm expecting to probably get 40hrs out of this game
All opinions are my own not those of my employer if you know who they are.

fyi it tells two different stories depending on how well you listen

the one DLC sort of hand feeds you it though

This reminded me of Zero Punctuation's review of this game that was released a year ago. So I rewatched it. Looks like Yahtzee agrees that it's a good game.

The game isn't bad. Graphically, artistically, and voice acting are all done very well. I'm really surprised how they made Orcs all look so differently. Gameplay is hard from the beginning but laughable near the end. It's a beat em up type game where timing buttons matters. Speaking of buttons on certain missions you're suppose to use an ability and it only briefly tells you what button to use. Very often I had to Google the button I had to press to do the action I needed to do.

Reasons to play the game are for the story and well done voice acting. I just love how the ghost elf guy sounds when he speaks. The game tells the story of the person who forged the rings. Other than that the gameplay is repetitive and you'll feel stupid near the end when you unlock all your abilities in the game. It gets really easy. Also the game makes it impossible to get certain weapon upgrades unless you progress a little in the story first, which you begin to fear if you're near the end of the game or not.

Yeah, that made me laugh, a lot. *sigh*

What was the point in posting it at all?

Relax guys. The game is available on Linux, it's just that the reviewer didn't have an nVidia card to play it on. The review is still valid/useful.
