more latency? sorry, couldn't resist. also, there seem to be billions of people with good enough internet connection for that according to announcer

30 Mbps for 1080p streaming. I'm stuck with 4 Mbps DSL.

I'd like to see an unlocked $50 Steam Link... supposedly it's powered by SteamOS (according to Michael).

With an unlocked Steam Link, you could even theoretically use it in the same manner as Nvidia Shield... play Android games and stream PC games from the cloud but also have access to the 1000+ Linux games on Steam, plus even more with PlayOnLinux. Granted many games will have system requirements that far exceed the specs of the low-end Steam Link, which will likely have x86 equivalent specs to the Raspberry Pi or Pi 2 but then it will also have In-Home Streaming support for all the games that it cannot handle:

This device has very powerful hardware for games but I think it will be too expensive against a FireTV - at least for streaming (think of Limelight).

$200 for an android console is crazy! You can get a ps3 12GB version for $188 and the 500GB version for $220.

So what is your opinion of Steam Machines consoles, where the cheapest machines will start at $450 USD?

Steam consoles are on a different performance level, competing with the PS4/XBONE.
