    This week there was a 22-way graphics card test of Metro Redux on Linux using GeForce and Radeon hardware with the latest AMD and NVIDIA proprietary drivers. Today the newest Linux gaming test candidate to look at is the AMD/NVIDIA Linux performance with the latest Unreal Engine 4 demos. In this article is a look at the UE4 Linux performance on AMD and NVIDIA graphics hardware running with Ubuntu.

    It's funny because with radeonsi unreal engine 4 runs quite nicely.

    For your tests, it would be interesting to not only test the current radeonsi status, but also with this llvm branch: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~tstella...rf-Jan-08-2015 and with http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~tstella...ing-Jan07-2014 merged into mesa git master because they provide a really noticeable improvement.

      Whither R9 290/290X?

      Hi Michael, thanks for this info. I wonder though, why no R9 290 or 290X in the lineup?

          When it came to the proprietary NVIDIA Linux graphics driver (346.22), there were no issues at all.

            AFAIK, each unreal app by default runs on opengl3 unless you force it with command line switch -opengl4. this could add another viable viewpoint layer to the tests to see if running something with gl4 impacts performance

              FTA: "For this article, Unreal Engine 4's OpenGL 3.2 mode was used rather than the optional OpenGL 4 renderer."

              The GL3 mode was used since in a few days will have a comparison to the open-source drivers that obviously are GL3 only.

              A separate article at a later date will have GL4.

                R9 290 Mesa 10.3 on linux 3.17 had some glitches but did not lock up on any of these test.
                Is Unreal Engine trying to use OpenGl 4.x when supported, that could cause problems?

                    All the tests in this article are with Catalyst.... As mentioned a few times in the article text.
