      That's all SteamOS or any other Linux distro will ever be until, people start to realize its ok to break from tradition and do there own thing.

        Valve's expertise is games. Why in the world would we want them to start playing around with something like an entire operating system, when they've never shown any inclination of doing so before?

        Take what works, and build on top of it. Honestly, the whole point of SteamOS is that you never see the distro underneath it. There's no point in changing it, since the idea is to make it completely invisible anyway.

        The fact that you can "hack" it and modify the internals is just a nice bonus. Just like you can root Android phones, or the windows running on an XBox, but only with a lot more effort.
