That's pretty cool, now Derelict 3 might be able to go into Beta or so.

This is one of the best news posted on Phoronix in the last months. This is really great, a huge step forward to linux game development.

Well... It has been usable for some time. However having said that. It probably can't hurt to be officially released =)

SDL 1.2 is under the LGPL licence, not the GPL.

Yay, more misinformation that will never be fixed since he never ever seems to proof read or edit his articles....

A typo for you, Mr. Michael

              (up to 7.1 spealer output)
Spealers are such a wonderful thing to have~

Be it GPL or LGPL, but how are they able to change the license that easy? Removed/rewritten all codes from external contributors?

Read somewhere that SDL 2.0 is just SDL 1.3 with the 1.2 code removed. Don't quote me on it though. But it would explain how they could change the licence.

I don't know exactly what they did, but an option would have been to actually ask for permission to all of the external contributors to do so.
