May be you volunteer to write a comparable open source engine?

    don't get me wrong
it's awesome they are doing this
and having linux support as a target-platform may mean a port of the editor sometime in the future
but still kind of sad (stupid headlines and expectations while reading them )

An open noose only gets problematic when it closes.

Is it a proprietary rope or is it a rope based on open standards?

Just a tiny little problem with the linux "support": it's not possible to develop with Unity on linux...

so only the a way to deploy games -> no editor
who wants to play games when creating them is so much more fun?^^

Exactly, having an engine is only one half of the game (pun intended). We have game engines for years (id1/2/3/4, Unreal 1/2/3, Unigine) and more coming, like Unity or C4, but we haven't seen some really good games with that (read: AAA).
