    My list would be near identical, just that I would include Battlefield 3 (but not Modern Warfare 3)

    It's a sad list you put there, mainly because you took it off the top sellers list. Just because it sells does not make it good.
    I know. 50,000,000 Elvis-fans were wrong!

    The AAA gaming industry is driven by investors, and as such are largely risk-averse. As a result they keep churning out the same soulless crap over and over again.
    Like Elvis!

    The indies might be more po-dunk, but at least it's a more interesting market. Experimental games like Dear Eshter would never come out of the AAA market. There's a lot more to gaming than the very narrow field painted by the so-called "AAA"s.
    I think the magic in what determines what is a good game is largely unknown until it hits the market, whether it is an indie game or not.

    Here are two articles from RPS that nicely sums up what that market is:

    Of that list, only Portal 2 and FO:NV are worth paying full price for. The rest are over-hyped schlock.

    The topic was about Carmageddon Reincarnation coming to Linux.
    They just confirmed the Linux and Mac version even if they don't make the 600k within the remaining 14 hours.
    It's a fun game to have on Linux, so now is your time to throw in a few bucks if you didn't pledged yet.

    Especially the ones who are always bitching about why every new Linux game must be a FPS/cheap rpg/puzzle game.

    I think you misunderstand the market. The AAA games market is not filled at all, and not with dreck.

    There are more than 600 million games sold each year (actually 609,081,306).

    Here are some stats for 2011 (http://www.vgchartz.com/yearly/2011/Global/)

    Global Software by Platform
    Platform Yearly (change) [share]
    X360 154713292 (+16%) [0.254]
    PS3 148409212 (+13%) [0.244]
    Wii 135651642 (-26%) [0.223]
    DS 81076905 (-33%) [0.133]
    PSP 32203266 (-29%) [0.053]
    PC 29767970 (+89%) [0.049]
    3DS 26833789 (++89%) [0.044]
    PSV 425230 (++89%) [0.001]

    PC, i.e. Windows has a seventh (7th) place in games with less than 5% of the market.

    In this relatively small market the best selling PC games of all time are found here http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name...=0&results=200

    There are 30 games published since 2010 on the top 100 list:

    13 StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty PC 2010
    18 World of Warcraft: Cataclysm PC 2010
    30 Star Wars: The Old Republic PC 2011
    33 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC 2011

    I've already pledged, hopefully there's a big bump in the amount of funding in the final hours. I'll be keeping a close eye on it.

    AAA games didn't exist back in 1972. The entire games industry barely existed.

    Maybe the definition of what was a big game back then was different, but that doesn't matter. We're all using today's accepted definition, not whatever was happening 100 years ago or in the alternate universe Q's brain comes from.

    Practically every Flash based game in existence today would be a AAA game according to your warped perspective. They all get way more than 100,000 users or whatever you are going on about.
