For those who don't know, this is a spiritual successor to classic single player Ultima games, as well as Ultima Online. It is unique in its approach to selective multiplayer. You can play completely offline as a single player game with a traditional campaign. You can play online with your own hosted instance only with select friends. Or you can play in a more traditional MMO model with a persistent online world with everyone. Right now it looks like no subscription model for the online game.
For those unfamiliar with the Ultima games there is a heavy focus on immersion, story, crafting, moral quandaries, and real consequence. Also, there are no quest markers. You talk to NPCs who move about town on their own schedules and figure out the plot through actual dialogue and exploration.
I back a lot of crowd funded projects, but as someone who grew up with the Ultima series, this is the one I was most excited for. I've personally backed it to the tune of $100. I honestly wish I could have afforded to back it more.
While there are more and more Linux games every year, there are few RPGs and hardly any online RPGs. This is a great game in its own right, but also a great game that is already guaranteed to get a Linux release. Please consider supporting it.
As part of this new push to see if they raise even more money for more features (and just adding more content/depth to the game), they are doing referral rewards. If you do back the game, please consider listing me as a referrer. My email address is [email protected]
