  • A Rage update with improved graphic menu options, and a promise from Carmack to resolve the texture blurriness.

And now to continue waiting for the Linux port.

Old news. And it fixed absolutely nothing for me.

      • Just spent a couple of hours playing Rage with wine. Works very well. No sound but I'm doing HDMI and it can be a bit tricky.

You have 22Gb of textures now and you wait for highres res textures? dream on

            • The textures are already high res. It's just that the engine chooses not to display them at the max resolution. 20GB wasted, haha :P

The textures are all tiles, you do realise that, don't you? Nothing is repeated, so it's a matter of taking all displayable pixels, adding them all up and putting it in a file. The fact that it's only 21GB is absolutely crazy in itself.

So all textures that you're seing is the maximum resolution. And if you don't believe me, then why don't you check out Carmack's Twitter page?

Higher res is impossible. The only thing that Carmack can do is bicubic-upsampling. This will be in the next patch to make textures appear less blurry.

The size of the internal build was one terrabyte. The build that we're playing is a lossy compressed 150GB of textures with a Microsoft compression algorithm that id got for free (otherwise releasing it for Xbox360 was practically impossible).

                • Wow. Then why the heck did he do that? There are 3 year old (or even more?) games out there with better looking textures.

Because it needs to fit on a shippeable disc.

Other games didn't seem to have a problem. Crysis fits on a single DVD.
