DRM free

Sounds like the anti-trust violation from hell. You sell a million games and then those games are now competition on the market. So you FUD the competition which in this case happens to be your previous customers, but hey, what have done for me lately? I figure this already a done deal and we're just being afforded some time to acclimate.

Personally, I think as long as people are voting to win, then we will get whatever the government decides to afford us. We have to have the courage to vote on policy, blindly. If we vote on policy, then we'll start making the people that do win uncomfortable, and they'll stop affording us the rights we think we have today, and more people will stop voting for them, and eventually we'll win on policy. But things will get worse before they get better. And the real question is, to be or not to be. Do we want to live in a matrix world where we feel like we have rights that we really don't have?

Be real, be sober.

If human beings weren't failing horribly, we wouldn't need a government in the first place.

Sadly, if we want to keep being civilised we must have a government. That government is like "This is our land, right here. These are our rules. If you can't behave yourself then go to a prison for a while or make sure you get your ass out of here before I catch you. If you can behave yourself knowing this then power to you. We hope you make a succesful business and create some jobs."

Realy; that's all. You can decide to have pre-paid phones. You don't have to buy a proprietary OS and you can do all the internetting at your job. But... you want your shiny new phone. You must! You need internet at home to browse Phoronix. You need a big Full HD screen, just because your neighboor has it too. Etc, etc , etc...

Now if you just make sure you do not kill anyone, or take objects from people that worked for it, you'll be fine. Hell you can free speach all day on Slashdot and nobody is going to track you down in a S.W.A.T. and take you to the NSA's basement.

-People who head over to, say, the Pirate Bay

You're only screwing yourselves if you release your game with DRM.

Try maximising profits instead of trying to decrease the amount of non-sales in the entire market; it's like "Our goal is to sell a game to the entire market and any single consumer that doesn't buy it is due to piracy so we should reduce that". That is ofcourse nice if you care about a userbase in case you sell a platform, but is totaly stupid, from every corner of every law of economics, to apply this to games.

Experience shows that converting software pirates is futile. What is more likely is convincing games that do pay for games to buy your game; "Don't worry; if you buy this game then you won't be having to deal with user-unfriendly copy protection".

No of course we know that DRM is totaly not intended to reduce piracy; it is intended so that you can't sell your game second handed when you're done with it so this tactic makes sure that would-be second hand buyers go to the original retailer instead.
I agree with everything you just said 100%.

If so, very possibly pre-rendered with the game engine. I'm confident Unigine engine is capable of that.

Teaser trailer. The game is porbably still in Alpha.

The engine does exist though and it's possible they finished enough models to do a video using them.

This would be correct.

Besides, if the humble indy bundel/world of goo has thought me anything, it's that >9 out of 10 people will pirate it without DRM so apperantly it does pay off to use DRM.
Survey says...

+---+
\ /
X
/ \
+---+

Did you miss the OTHER figures that the Humble Bundle bunch gave out?

They got better sales numbers doing what they did, including no DRM, than if they'd done what you're talking to. Don't use the Humble Bundle as an example of why they need to do DRM- it's wrong headed and very, very incorrect.

Don't take this personal: It's entirely possible you have good intentions, but they have to take others into account...
Yes, they do. DRM isn't an answer. It honestly never was, never will be.

Treat your customers like theives and they'll repay you in kind. Sure, there'll be fools that'll buy it- but the bulk of the people will just wait until it's cracked and get it off of TPB (See Spore for an example thereof...).

Again, I doubt copy-protection system really were invented to do anything with customers. There was just a big trouble with organized illegal game selling two decades ago and we're suffering of how game industry chose to retaliate.
