  • Classic Command & Conquer titles now freeware

Just noticed this morning that the classic Command a& Conquer games have been made freeware from EA.

Are you ready for the ultimate real-time strategy experience? Gather resources, build your base, and create the most powerful armies in the world before engaging the enemy in all-out war.

Should be able to get these going with wine or with FreeCNC.

Wow, C&C and :RA had been freeware for a while, but now there's also Tiberian Dawn and Tiberian Sun + Firestorm.

    Gotta get downloading!

Meh, 1 minute edit time.. Didn't know the alternate name for C&C was Tiberian Dawn. Okay, at least one new game.

Crappy games from a crappy company, IMO.

Bite your tongue, I'll take these gems over 99.9% of the FOSS games out there. These were still Westwood Studio games before EA took them over. They offer one thing that many FOSS games lack. Fun.

Well aint I now disappointed. Tiberian Sun is unplayable in Wine. C&C ran fine in dosbox, RA fine in Wine, but TS slows down to frames per minutes every time I move the mouse in-game.

And apparently this has been this way in Wine since 0.9.30. Sigh.

It runs perfectly for me. You should try a more recent version of wine.

                  Gentoo ~amd64
                  nvidia driver 195.36.03
xorg-server 1.6.5 (because 1.6 is stable and 1.7 froze twice)
wine 1.1.38 (from git, last updated Feb 7)
