Is the Wayland backend enabled by default in this release? Or do you still have to tell it to use Wayland manually?

Do you use Wine for applications or for games?

What applications and games do you use Wine for?

Yeah, it should be enabled by default.

To clarify, it's built by default now but it will still default to launching via xwayland in a Wayland session. While the Wayland plugins is much better than it was it's still not at complete parity and so is not defaulted to.

                • IrfanView - nothing close in Linux
                • Adobe Photoshop - nothing close in Linux
                • CueSplitter - nothing close in Linux
                • Far File Manager - MC is an embarrassment
                • WinAMP (I'm not joking) - still better than Audacious by a wide margin
                • WinSCP - nothing close in Linux
                • MP3Tag - nothing close in Linux
                • Audacity - a native Linux version requires an infinite number of dependencies
                • Windows Paint - there's nothing as simple yet powerful in Linux
                • Spek (audio analyzer) - nothing close in Linux
                • auCDtect (CD authenticity detector) - nothing close in Linux
                • Some others but my PC is now shut down.
When people ask questions like this I start to wonder whether you actually use your PC at all.

Linux has web browsers and Blender. Almost everything else is subpar or doesn't exist at all.

Games? Linux hasn't seen any AAA titles in a decade now. I wanna game, I reboot into W11.

Wine + DXVK? Thank you but no thank you. I want to be able to run everything, not a limited set with random bugs.

Agree for the most part if your needs aren’t met by other Linux alternatives.

Although there is a version of Spek for Linux by the actual developer himself. And XnView MP is close enough to IrfanView for my needs. Although I used IrfanView in the field at large sporting events such as the ATP and WTA tours and the PGA tours for image conversions to be used for Jumbotron displays, at one event back in 2010’s I was presented an Ubuntu laptop that did not have Wine nor the admin rights to add it so I could use IrfanView inside Wine. Someone had installed XnView MP and after fiddling a bit for a day before the event’s showtime I was able to be proficient with it and it met all my conversion needs. I still use it at home. But obviously your mileage will vary.

Why don't you just delete Linux and use Windows for everything? Blender and browsers run on Windows too. BTW, after that, please delete your Phoronix account on the way out.

To answer the original question, I use Wine only for games as included with Steam. No game glitches nothing, all games I want run just fine.
