Phoronix: QH Electronics Game Controller Support Being Added For Linux 6.14

Thanks to Valve, another Xbox 360-compatible game controller will see support with the upstream XPad input driver with the upcoming Linux 6.14 kernel...

My life goal: make 1-line patches (yes technically two) that just add four bytes of a new USB device ID to an existing driver of an existing standard, and have an article written about it, lol

Not sure if your post is being sarcastic or not, but half my reasoning for writing such posts when stumbling across said patches are for raising awareness / particularly if someone with said XYZ device is to Google about the Linux support that they will see the information as opposed to just search results for patches on a mailing list more than likely but without any context if/when it was merged to the kernel, etc.

Definitely rather sarcastic, although fair point, in this way it's probably way more discoverable than trying to find out if support exists in any other way. But it feels rather funny when comparing it to the efforts that go into creating patches for new devices support that don't really work with the existing drivers (I took a few failed attempts at those...).

With that said, unironically if all it takes to add a support for the particular device you have in front of you is to tell a kernel to use an existing driver for it on a device list and then it just works, must feel pretty satisfying (and then contributing that information back to upstream), it's definitely a win for everyone either way.

        I appreciate the response.

Go buy all the random cheap Chinese brand USB Bluetooth adapters on Amazon. You're bound to find some using a chipset from Realtek or someone else that's already supported and just needs the vendor / device IDs added. Life's goal accomplished!

I was able to score a bunch of Hyperkin Tetris-themed gamepads at Burlington for $18 apiece plus tax - haven't had the chance to mess with them yet, though.

They're wired as well as bluetooth; fingers crossed.

I thought Burlington was a women's clothing store. Maybe it's also something else.

Too bad I didn't got a Phoronix article when I added¹ the PowerA Xbox One Mini controller (also, too bad my commit was squashed with other's change before being merged in mainline). 😅️

That is the easy part, you miss the part where Phoronix actually writes an article about it. 😉️
