FEX 2501 Brings JIT Performance Improvements, Changes Needed For Denuvo Support

Phoronix: FEX 2501 Brings JIT Performance Improvements, Changes Needed For Denuvo Support

FEX 2501 is now available as the newest feature release to this open-source emulator that allows running x86/x86_64 binaries on AArch64 Linux hosts...

Box64 is also progressing nicely, especially since Box32(Not box86, box32 enables to run 32bit binaries on a purely 64bit system, important for riscv) is a thing. My current benchmark for box64 is running minecraft with its own bundles amd64 java runtime on my RISCV workstation(Spacemit M1/16GB DDR4/RX560).

I wish they'd support Android in the future.
There is Winlator (and many forks) using box64 + wine + dxvk for running Windows games and it's doing pretty well.
I see videos of games like GTA V running at 60+ fps on Snapdragon devices using Winlator.

For FEX there was Cassia which was canceled.

But then again Alyssa Rosenzweig is employed by Valve and also contributes to FEX.
So perhaps Valve is having long term plans for using it in some Steam Play / Proton layer for Android in the future.

FEX desperate needs to re-focus on RISC-V and stop helping ARM, a proprietary ISA.

They need to focus on BOTH just like box64.
Ignoring a huge part of the marketshare for ideology reasons won't bring them any credibility.
RISC-V is of course a much prefereble solution, but ARM is here to stay as well, and both will share the market in the x86 replacement era.

Maybe when RISC-V machines will stop having the performance of a Pentium 3. They can barely run modern native apps, let alone emulators.

Can't believe T2 has it updated already: https://t2linux.com/packages/fex how do they even do that?

Usual reminder that rene runs T2 linux.

And thinks that distributions get users from being mentioned by Phoronix, instead of the other way around where distributions start with a community and then become notable. Any software for which the author does not disclose they are the author should be viewed as an attempt to infect users with malware.

ARM is actually mutually exclusive with RISC-V.

Once RISC-V succeeds (inevitable, btw), ARM does not stand a chance. It will suffer before x86 does.

RISC-V will never succeed as long as the official platform specs still specifies use of device trees.
