Phoronix: FEX 2410 Released With New JIT Optimizations

FEX 2410 is out as the newest monthly update to this open-source emulator that allows running Linux x86/x86_64 binaries on Linux AArch64 (ARM 64-bit) systems, including for games and software like Steam. With FEX 2410 there are yet more fixes as well as some new JIT optimizations...

I'd love for someone with a new Snapdragon Elite (NUVIA) laptop to run some game benchmarks in FEX so we have something decent to compare against.

Meanwhile, box86/box64 has been making progress on the industry-standard ISA.

Is there even one Elite out there with full hardware support on bleeding-edge Linux/BSD?

I have a Dell XPS 13 with Snapdragon X elite, and have working Ubuntu 24.10 now on it with HW accel. I will explore this FEX a bit. If you want specific test run or something, let me know.

Are you using stock Ubuntu or any notable modifications?

Oh, and are you aware of a driver for the TPU?

Linux-next kernel with several patches from the person that is working on those. Besides that just 24.10 Ubuntu.

              TPU not looked into.

How is the power consumption/ battery runtime of the device?

Not tested a full depletion or any real battery test. So not sure. It never went below 70% when using quite a while, but I tend to use it with power.

There is still work in progress upstream for power management.

Risc-V is not even an opponent to ARMv6
