Steam Linux Usage Dropped Lower In October But With More Questionable Data

This evening (Europe, 11/2) I did get a pop-up about the Steam survey (Flatpak on Ubuntu 22.4). I answered the survey and sent it in. From what I recall, I haven't had that pop-up before, but that might be due to I haven't logged in to Steam at the right time. Normally I'm logged in, since I don't restart Steam or Ubuntu that often.

If I were Steam, I would stratify the survey into different clusters and apply weights. What about stratifying with country for a start? The weights might be the number of accounts of each country connecting to Steam during the month.

Im not really surprised.
The two things I used the Steam client for were steamvr and csgo.
Steamvr became 2.0 which broke everyones VR, so have to revert to the "offline" version 1.27.5
csgo became cs2, which is very very broken for everybody, unable to start on multiple monitor setups on linux, and unplayably broken hitboxes for everyone even if you feel like turning monitors off so it will start.

It can be very easily gamed and even if you don't it won't be a distributed statistical sample.

I think, I had it pop up at more then one of my devices but I could also easily miss it on several devices as I guess it's a time window and I don't connect or use all the devices all the time. For instance my most powerful gaming PC isn't connected right now because of remodeling and my Steam Deck isn't on the internet for days if I don't use it at home.

This is Interesting. Why not? Didn't your answers represent your circumstances? Let the statisticians worry about this but anomalies like yours will drown out in the mass of results.

It actually is an awesome concept because it allows opinions such as the ones you are expressing to be openly shared.

That's the theory anyway, in reality we don't have true "free speech", as we do implement controls, such as gag orders and hate crime legislation, but Free Speech is something to be valued and worked towards.

Imagine if the CCP decided to really allow it's citizens the freedom to state how they truly feel, you might up with Honk Kong, in its heyday, or Taiwan.

I would rather be treated as an adult with a fully functional brain that is respected enough to have their opinion heard rather than a child whose actions must be control so that society isn't "destabilized".
