Joystick with steam

Hello, several months ago I purchased the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick.
I also got X-Plane 11, Warplanes: WW2 dogfight, and war thunder.

I finally got around to trying them today and none of them work right:

X-Plane crashes immediately on load.
Warplanes won't see the joystick.
War Thunder has no sound, but does see the joystick.

I'd mostly like to get Warplanes working with the joystick first.
Has anyone managed to do this ?

I just tried Air Conflicts: Pacific Carriers.
The joystick works, but there is no sound.

Sound works in dota2 and other such games, why aren't these games working ?
