Valve's Steam Data For December Points To A Huge Dip For Linux Gaming Marketshare
Hmmm, everyone probably rushed back to Windows for CP2077 release since its a bit fiddly to get it running decently under steam/proton (people still have issues with experimental).
I played CP2077 90% on windows10 and %10 on Linux, win10 of cause ran better but the game consistently has performance issues and memory leaks so its very hard to compare most the time.
same for me. Day one support was asthonishingly good but the game is very resource demanding even a few % are counting. And I have had sound issues - only sounds triggered by me (first instance) are played - gun shot yes caused exploding barrel no etc. Which is a real bummer for immersion. But all the other games linux first .
how is this possible that amd is 500€ higher than expected ?
amd should make sure the price goes lower...
also AMD should produce a 6950XT with 256mb infinity cache instead of 128mb and with water cooling solution for the reference design for the 6950XT...
assuming you are german UVP - it is the recommended price - not finally the one shops can ask for. ...demand/stock. I'm sure some shop will ask why should we give the margin to the scalpers

I honestly don't understand why Valve keeps bleeding money for Linux. I say this as a primary Linux user and major FOSS supporter. It just doesn't make business sense. It didn't make one on day one and it doesn't make one now either.
Really cheap advertising and whitewashing of those greedy Forbes100 bums?
they are also probably already bored torturing homeless people, hence taking this to another level with their steam client for Linux software
As long they use a compatibility layer that comes with problems and performance penalties I will reject Valves "Future of gaming".
Today I saw a comparison between an authored game in unity 3d ecs (dots) and a handbuild c++/opengl implementation and the results already horrible without any kind of compatibility layer:

I don't think that either "Unity Sucks" or "doing it from the ground up results in better performance than a multi-purpose game engine" is surprising at the least. And it can be any game engine for that 2nd one. I'm pretty sure most every game engine will have less performance than hand built.
Fully expect this to be an error and need adjusting. It's happened before as an error and we don't really believe that 22.35% extra Windows 7 users suddenly appeared with 30% more Simplified Chinese.

There's a few factors:
1) A well justified fear of microsoft marginalising them by making the windows store increasingly prominent.
2) They are a fully private company with billions in the bank and can do whatever they want on a whim
3) Linux would allow them to have their own OS that they control top to bottom
The money they spend on linux will be pennies. Considering they're not slowing down at all you have to assume that SteamOS 3 is going to appear... eventually and will also probably be a fairly dramatic departure from their previous attempts.

You beat me to it, Liam. I was going to post this. Look at the last graph: the market share of Linux on English speaking installations stays steadily around 1.9% like nothing happened.

OpenGL is already obsolete and only legacy support right now.
please come again if you come up with some vulkan/dx12 tests.
