  • Valve's Proton Offers Branch With VKD3D For Direct3D 12 Over Vulkan

Phoronix: Valve's Proton To Begin Shipping VKD3D For Direct3D 12 Over Vulkan

While VKD3D continues to be under heavy development, Valve already appears pleased with it enough that it's now being built as part of their Wine-based Proton software for powering Steam Play on Linux...

That's really cool. Makes me wonder how much of DX12 will carry over, like support for raytracing or games that can target multiple GPUs.

We are gonna see the % of proton compatible games raise a bit then. Awesome!

Cool. Thanks Wine and Steam. Can't wait to give it a try

Does anyone know if DXVK will ever get DX12 support and if we'll someday end up in a competing standards situation like we have now with DX9 and DX11?

This is incorrect according to the ValveSoftware github moderator:

            10:42 < kisak> this is a pretty misleading article. https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pa...roton-Building
10:42 < kisak> a user asked nicely for a WIP branch for testing and a Proton dev agreed

I do not think there is any immediate plans for DXVK to support DX12.
Afaik DX9 has more in common with DX11, than any of them have with DX12... DX12 <-> Vulkan probably have a lot more in common that way.

Updated the article.... Looks like the user who pointed the commit to me was either over zealous or just trying to cause confusion.

Please check better your sources instead complaining to mere users. Be brave and acknowledge your faults.
