Phoronix: Warfork Letting Warsow Live On Under Steam

Going back a decade one of the interesting open-source FPS games of its time was Warsow. Development on Warsow formally ended a few years ago for this Qfusion (Quake 2 code base) engine powered game that started in 2005, but now there is Warfork as a fork of Warsow that is being developed and also available via Steam...

Michael, Warsow's owner Chasseur De Bots never formally announced any end of Warsow development and the development never ended. You was probably mislead by some lone assertion from lone developer who only spoke for himself but not in the name of Warsow.

Warsow development never ended and a beta 2.5 was published six days ago (August 12th), see https://www.warsow.net/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/warsow/

How can you peddle gossip without any discernment neither verification from what looks to be an hostile fork? Do you realize how much harm you can do when you say things that are not true?

Do you realize how much harm you do when you put without any wariness focus on any random people taking an existing free open source game and put it on Steam in the back of the existing game community, development team and legal owner ?

      Long story.

Warsow is still under development. Last beta was released just few days ago.
Devs want release game on Steam but first they need finish some features and then release it.
One person - "who cares, I fork it (w/o needed features) and release it faster, ofc thanks for you code and for your work... hahaha"

ANd now we see how bad is this community and why some nice project just fall...

Multiple people emailed this week regarding Warfork and that was the information I knew at the time but the article has since been updated.

You did an awful investigative job, really. Please release more quality, instead just caring about release faster information as you usually do.

What about another news about Warsow vs Warfork? And make proper apologies, please. They deserve it!

I think War§ow is a really cool game, it is innovative and have a distinct game play and game mechanics which include running on walls, and using walls to jump from.
Also the graphics is rather cool as they have this cel-based renderer which makes it look like a game instead of photorealistic, which makes it fun, although the graphics are good though.

Don't be a dick. There was acknowledge, investigation, and revision/correction -- those are more important than bullshit apologies to coddle bent butthurt egos.

Due to the demand for these news articles, the speed they come out, and information gathering process it's impossible to always weed and flesh out every detail the first time with a 1 man team. This is just a fact of the news production process.

Get over yourself, shit happens. Others of us still appreciate and support having this channel and are okay with the occasional slip up. Again -- shit happens, dude probably just needs more coffee so chill.

I appreciate Phoronix exists, but I'm not a conformist.
