Last week NVIDIA unveiled the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti as their first Turing graphics card shipping without the RTX/tensor cores enabled and that allowing the company to introduce their first sub-$300 graphics card of this new generation. I bought an EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti XC Black graphics card for delivering Linux OpenGL/Vulkan gaming benchmarks of this TU116 GPU and have the initial results to share today compared to a total of 16 different NVIDIA GeForce / AMD Radeon graphics cards on the latest Linux graphics drivers.

Looks quite decent when it comes to performance. However, the size of that cooler is a bit worrying. Like they took a weaker GPU and super-overclocked it along with a giant heat sink. They could have just re-branded the ITX 1070 and call it a day. It would be smaller.

Also the 350€ price tag... In comparison, the 1060 was about 200€ before the mining crap. While the 1160 is of course faster, also many years newer too. One would think the 1160 is the "current version" of the 1060. A bit faster, as it's newer, but targets the same market. Apparently it doesn't seem so.

The cooler is EVGA's blunder. Everybody else has been able to produce short 1660Tis using two-slot solutions. EVGA's isn't even among the more silent ones.
As for the price, 1060 debuted at $279 as well (non-FE).

Seems the 1660Ti overall performs worse on Linux vs the GTX 1070, at least compared to Windows.

Because we're heading to a point where 1080p is CPU bottlenecked.

yeah. I said SHOULD be. But because 1440p screens and graphics cards are so expensive the majority still on 1080p.
