Phoronix: Wine Developers Are Exploring A Vulkan Backend To WineD3D

While Wine developers have already been working on VKD3D as Direct3D 12 implemented on top of Vulkan for Windows programs, it turns out Wine developers are exploring getting WineD3D on top of Vulkan for older versions of Direct3D using Vulkan rather than OpenGL...

    I assume you meant pre-DX10, not pre-DX19

Why not just contribute to VK9?

Why the need for duplicated projects.

They should stop fooling around, and accept DXVK upsteram. Their rule of "we reject C++ because we need to support ancient compilers" makes zero sense.

Are they taking about VKD3D or something else?

Imagine one could invest these resources also into Gallium D3D state trackers instead of always unfinished wined3d.
But now stop dreaming and look at the actual mess again...

              This is getting ridiculous.
We already have 3 different open source D3D9 implementations:
              • Gallium Nine
              • VK9
              • WineD3D (the old one that mapped D3D9 to OpenGL)
And now they're creating yet another one. Cool.

                There's also DXUP.

DXUP is already half way there! Why not focusing on make better implementation for Media Foundation?! That will be more useful.
