Phoronix: Linux Input Expert Peter Hutterer Shows Off "GGKBDD" As Linux Gaming Keyboard Daemon

While the long-term prospects of the project have yet to be determined, longtime Linux input expert Peter Hutterer of Red Hat has hacked together "GGKBDD" as the generic gaming keyboard daemon for Linux systems...

I don't like it because I think the name is not cryptic enough. Please add more random letters and numbers. Maybe even an underscore in front.

xbindkeys. No idea why another daemon would be necessary. Well maybe only for wayland. Does this work on wayland?

It also creates a virtual keyboard device through uinput.
            It seems so.

Hutterer is a pretty competent developer and seems to be an advocate for Wayland. I'm sure the primary reason he made this was for the sake of Wayland.

Oh no, please don't kill my project which aims for the exact same thing

But I do want to ask: Why does this run as root? Why does nobody ever worry about multi-user?

I have a dream: I want to Alt-Tab out of fullscreen games like on Windows.

From what I understand, the problem is that fullscreen programs fully "grab" the keyboard. Could such a daemon-in-the-middle finally fix this?

I guess a Wayland compositor could do the same, but it surely doesn't work with Weston + Xwayland.
