The problem with steam machines was that the only people who wanted them, wanted them as PCs, but valve sold them as pseudo consoles and made steamos a console only os instead of general purpose os. If they'd just made a proper operating system for them that works as PC just as well as it would as a console, it would've been a lot more successful.

    It was poorly marketed too.

The most interesting kind of mentally challenged people are those who browse a site of a subject they don't even like.

Dude you are the blind one , KDE/PLASMA is like 10000 times better than Windows 10 Desktop environment.

I can list you over 100 features that you simply CANT do in a windows desktop environment. Even the simplest thing, for example APPS follow mouse , if you have 4 monitors in windows and you open an app , they open most of the times in random screens, In Plasma you have the feature -> apps follow mouse so apps open where your mouse is , simple as that
Most people learned to use Windows and afraid to try something else. The same goes with Adobe and Office products.
In my daily job I build pcs and most of the times people wants to install Windows , Office and adobe and when I ask them if they are Graphic designers they just say no its for personal use to crop my photos. Imagine they want to use Adobe Photoshop just to crop photos which even a simple editor can do that.

Anyway about gaming, AAA companies still missing from Linux community, Rockstar , EA ,CAPCOM ,BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, other than that it has been a great effort so far from all the developers and Valve especially to push Linux Gaming and with Proton now we have more choices available.
When an AAA title is getting released there is no Linux support and a true gamer wants the new game right now and not after a year if it ported to Linux.
Hopefully with Vulkan , proton, better game engines and maybe a new API we will solve all these problems

As usual, I don't express anything I am sure that the company that has to make it is already aware of.
However, many things have been told already.

I also think that the Steam Survey is not in a good shape anymore. Especially because the options are sometimes outdated and I think there must be a much better method to finding out the preferred OS of people and isn't this what it's about? So asking people which OS they use and giving everyone the chance to vote each month is a better idea in my opinion.

I think that Steam on Linux is a massive success so far, it is almost completely replacing a Windows installation for all people. There are some further steps to make but I am happy with the speed everything evolves now. It is definitely on home stretch and when it comes to the distribution it is finally a thing that is mostly in the hands of Valve.

I hope that all of you tell people about the happenings and benefits of Steam on Linux, and I am sure we can improve this even further. But we know how standards became standards in the past and I can surely tell that bringing the actual product in the homes of people will not be easy but I am very optimistic that it is achievable.

To all enthusiasts about Linux gaming: Please do support Valve! What they achieved for the Linux desktop is massive and it's not imaginable that there would be any significant Linux gaming without them! Be smart and admit that people need resources to turn the game but when people help the right companies and companies help people to achieve their goals we can make the world a much better place that will still be turning.

Really I play chess and many other games with blind people running Linux computers. To be exact debian. Its interesting watching a blind person operate Linux in graphical mode of course they never get to see it. Really it funny turns out fully functional command line is a selling feature to blind users.

I am pleased with the progress, especially in the last 2 years. Excellent open AMD drivers (Lack of GUI settings), many distributions use the same libraries, which leads to unification. The desktop began to support more peripherals out of the box. The stunning work of the Vulkan API and the projects around it. It all looks great. 6 years ago Linux Desktop looked like a system for managing a Linux server. I think Valve needs consoles, unified and cheap (AMD r5 2200G or i3 + GTX 1050 ti) with Linux and exclusives. For example, to release Artifact a month earlier on Linux than on Windows. And apply this approach to all future projects. HL3 only Linux? Thanks Valve for playing ESO in Proton. I have now completely switched to Linux,
