- SNES: Mayflash Controller Adapter for SNES to Windows PC USB ($15.19 US, two ports, black plastic, controllers connect on either side at right angles to the USB lead, sold in blister-pack packaging that's held to a mostly green cardboard back using folded edges. No Win/OSX driver needed.)
- N64: Mayflash Controller Adapter Converter for Nintendo N64 to PC USB ($16.99 US, two ports, black plastic, controllers connect side-by-side opposite the USB lead, sold in blister-pack packaging that's held to a mostly green cardboard back using folded edges. No Win/OSX driver needed.)
- NES: This is trickier because they don't seem to sell the exact adapter I bought anymore (probably because someone forgot to set the "I'm a joystick" flag in its USB HID descriptor and I had to override that in a udev rule). The one I have reports itself as "INNEX NES Controller USB" and looks like the Tomee-branded NES To PC USB Controller Adapter For Windows & Mac - New w/ Packaging (Nintendo) with a slightly different shell, but I haven't tried that exact product. (If that listing is dead, mine and the Tomee one are single-port devices of the "converter electronics are packed into the NES end so it resembles a passive adapter" types. The Tomee one comes in a sealed blister pack with a white back card and a semi-circular brown card in front of the cable so only the two ends are visible.)
Heck, the guy who wrote that Instructable did it specifically to plug his NES controller into the dual-port Mayflash SNES adapter I linked to. (So the Instructable is another place you can see a picture of it.)
I also have other options that I don't use often:
- SNES: Brand NEW SNES SFC Super Nintendo Famicom Controller adapter for PC to Mac USB ($7.90 US, sold without packaging, one port opposite the USB lead, available in SNES grey and black. No Win/OSX driver needed. You need something newer than *buntu 14.04 LTS if you want the D-Pad to register properly on Linux but, otherwise, I have no complaints. I picked it up for when I want to lend one of my SNES controllers to a family member.)
- SNES, Genesis, N64 (cartridges and controllers): Retrode 2 with a version of the N64 adapter that has the controller ports populated. (Great device... just something I want to last as long as possible, so I only use the cartridge-dumping functionality and then box it up again... and they have trouble keeping it in stock (and no longer sell the N64 adapter with controller ports pre-populated), because of the high minimum order quantities for doing production runs on the various custom connectors involved. They also have plugins for GB/GBC/GBA and Sega Master System cartridges and a community that has produced a ton of PCB diagrams and firmware updates for a wide variety of other cartridge types. Uses USB HID and USB Mass Storage device classes, so no host-side software necessary.)
- Everything Under The Sun: BlissBox 4-Play (Expensive and the old firmware version I haven't gotten around to updating has quirks, but it'll let you hot-plug up to 4 controllers of any mix you want via its swappable adapter tails and, as a convenience, aims to provide consistent mappings and synthesizes a Start button press whenever you unplug a controller. I mainly bought this as a cost-effective way to ensure support for any connector types or buggy clone hardware that my regular adapters don't like. As with the Retrode's cartridge adapters, the community has stepped up with a ready supply of instructions for DIYing any cables not currently sold pre-assembled.)
