        My guess:
        • Direct EFI booting of kernel. No need for a boot manager
        • Kernel is self compiled and includes only necessary drivers
        • No initial ramdisk
        • Static network address
        • ... some other optimizations that i currently can't remember.

          well not quite.. it's stock clear linux os... and systemd-boot as boot manager

              OTOH, NUC is the smallest form factor desktop with lowest number of hardware to initialize.. no wonder my kernel boots slower as I have probably three times as many devices plugged in.
