        I'm more interested in Linux 4.9, laptop energy efficiency optimizations (Intel and MSI) and better Optimus PRIME? (so interested in MESA and Xorg/Wayland). Linux 4.8 seems more boring than 4.9.

          There are more boring things in kernel world then yet unreleased 4.8... like 3.14 EOL announcment

            Upgraded to 4.8 from 4.4 couple weeks ago. (running 16.04 LTS).
            So far, working great.

                Unfortunately, I'm stilling having no luck getting Metro 2033 Redux to run.
                Other games saw a big boost in performance with Mesa 12.1.
