    Phoronix: DirectFB Has (Temporarily?) Disappeared

It was pointed out to me that DirectFB.org is no longer present and it looks like it may have been for some time...

Is DirectFB even needed or good for anything these days when there is Wayland?

IIRC, DirectFB is lower-level than Wayland. Instead of having "clients" and such, it's more of just a nice protocol/API for programs (usually only one) to output directly to the frame-buffer (hence the "Direct" in the name). It's useful for embedded computers such as terminals and information kiosks, among many other things.

In fact, you could have a Wayland compositor that writes to the GPU using DirectFB, if you wanted.

If you need the documentation, you can download it from archive.org here:

Finally, I have setup a new server, but only got directfb.net domain so far, check http://www.directfb.net/

The directfb.org domain is currently taken by someone else.
