    By the time it is stable the 16TB volume size will make it obsolete, why don't they just ditch it now?

      Remember that this is more phone and mobile focused than desktop, at least it was. So do you expect to have 16TB of flash on your phone?

        People never saw things coming, and suddently they were affordable and mainstream.
        And don't forget a 6TB SSD already exists, where it would also make sense to use a "flash friendly" file system.
