It does replace dbus, especially how it works internally, the API doesn't need to change for compatibility and because it's good enough.
How you want to call it - a new solution, a replacement or improvement - I don't give a flying banana.

sane people do not roll their own

Any serious company that uses a lot of linux servers will build their own kernel, because that is the only sane thing to do.

I got bug reports on one of my packages because the distro kernel maintainers made booboo's.

Not rolling your own means you are either insane or sane enough that you know that you are not one of those that can roll their own.
