Just a heads up, but my desktop (Ubuntu 14.10) wouldn't boot after upgrading to rc2; it also affected one of the daily builds too, but can't recall when. Was fine on rc1.

The issue is, GRUB doesn't get past loading the initial ramdisk. When trying to load recovery, it says it gave up trying to load the root device.

This seems to be a similar (if not exactly the same) report: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87001

I had the same issue on my 14.04 Workstation. RC 1 works well.
