Phoronix: Linux 3.17 Kernel Released With Many Great Features

After a calm week when Linux 3.17 was extended by one week, Linus Torvalds happily released the Linux 3.17 kernel a few minutes ago. Linux 3.17 is out in all of its glory and due to Torvalds' travel schedule the Linux 3.18 merge window will be open for about three weeks...

Various rcs over the past weeks have been problematic on my phenom 2 box, with random infrequent CPU core stalls under sustained heavy 5+ loads, while 3.16.x exhibits no such problems.

          Intel pstate

I wonder is there any news if or when Intel pstate gonna be enabled by default AGAIN? Because now in idle/non-loaded mode cpu-freq runs at max. This nonsense appears after update kernel 3.15 and beyond.

hmm, on my machine intel pstate worked by default on 3.15, 3.16 mainline kernels on ubuntu 13.10 and now with 3.16 default on ubntu 14.10.

I wonder if 3.17 will be in ubuntu 14.10? It is technically before the kernel freeze date.

i think i remember that it already was said that it will not. though you are free to install the 3.17 kernel from ubuntus mainline builds.

I use 3.17 on both my netbook and desktop because it fixes driver issues on both, using ubuntu 14.04.

Hopefully the firmware is the same. I'm worried about https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79980 for my radeon driver. Seems to hit people who use google chrome allot. I'll probably try out a live-dvd and see if I encounter it.
