Because there are no difference between creating a display server in the open and then having Canonical REFUSING to cooperate, and having live kernel patching developed behind closed doors and THEN be given to the public. My personal guess is that we will see SUSE and RedHat cooperating to bring the end users really great tools.

Because two display servers would uselessly fragment the linux world (by 2x the software developers work load) but having two ways of patching the kernel might be just a matter of choice with little to no implication at all for the linux software developers out there.

You can't possibly be that clueless to believe that live-kernel-patching (that in many cases is actually -distro- and release specific) and as-complex and as-intrusive as display server.
