Where the hell did you get that info from? So people with older CPUs don't use Razor-Qt or now LXDE-Qt? Also they don't use VLC or other Qt based software?
You realize that more software than just KDE is using Qt?

Nope, SSE2 is the minimum for 64bit CPUs but i doubt that there are many out there of the SSE2 only CPUs. My Athlon 64 Clawhammer died some Month ago

    Re

This is actually great news, even if he tries to make it sound bad.
Hardware accelerated operations would improve the performance.

Who cares 32bit at this time? Or Why dont chose an SSE2 codepath if SSE2 is aviable, or Ship 2 Libary Builds and a Loader.

The whole article seems rubbish, it's like Michael was completely drunk. Half of the writing is nonsensical gibberish.

    Before everyone freaks out

Distros can just compile Qt to allow older processors. This only affects people who download the binaries straight from the Qt website.

Phoronix: Qt 5.3 Might Depend On SSE2 CPUs

Thiago Macieira of Intel is coordinating a proposal to enable SSE2 by default for the 32-bit builds of the Qt tool-kit beginning with the Qt 5.3 release. This likely change is due to the V4 JIT engine generating floating-point math for Qt's QML only using SSE x86 registers...
