Me being able to watch 1080p mkv files on my core i7 with 4 gigs of ram and with an ATI 4850 card, without it lagging like hell every now and then. WTF! Trying to watch Star Wars here, but it just can't be done with s/g/mplayer.

        "The US bans software patents."

This would be the most useful change for the Linux/open source world.

As for the open sourcing id tech 4, that wouldn't gain us anything on short-term. Developing advanced games needs experienced and motivated developers.

Get a cheap Nvidia card. Problem solved.

If you can afford an i7 cpu, you can afford a good Nvidia card too.

+1 for KDE migration to the trinity project!

That and down with software patents.

Well I bought the ATI for their "pro open-source ideas", just shoot me.

People would still bitch about it.

Well, I have a Core i3 300M CPU (the lowest possible i series CPU) and an HD4330 GPU (one of the cheapest, low performance cards) and using the open source drivers (no, not even catalyst) I have a perfect, lag and tear free 1080p playback. So I think you are having some configuration issues.

In a world where Gnash, a project with just a few developers, can have perfect fullscreen Youtube playback WITH GPU acceleration, people would be damn right to bitch about it.
