IMHO. it is important to document the many filesystems so that developers of new filesystems an understand what the fundamental problems with the Reiser series were, which features are worth recycling, and how to design a new system.
If we learn nothing from Reiser's 3-5, then we defeat the primary value of Open Source, which is that we can see the code and treat it as a bazaar we can pick and choose from.
If we learn nothing, then there is no distinction between open and closed, it's merely a pretense.
Reiser5 Would Be Turning Five Years Old But Remains Dead

Bit of a meta comment: the number of file
systems for Linux is astounding. I am scratching my head why that is. Arguably there is a need for different features and characteristics due to the diverse deployment scenarios for Linux.
But I personally think that the actual reason is different: file systems look simple enough to dare people into implementing their own file system. And at the same time, the inherent abstraction offered by data structures like a hierarchy of folders and files is a lure for “systems thinkers”.
Anyway: I do not believe that there is any living soul out there waiting for Reiser4/5. Or any other future file system for that matter. The ones that we have are plenty. For the time being, incrementally improving these has more value than inventing yet another file system.

What if he comes out of prison with a completed TempleOS implementation with as much hardware support as Linux
