Phoronix: Reiser5 Would Be Turning Five Years Old But Remains Dead

It was on New Year's Eve 2019 that Edward Shishkin announced the Reiser5 file-system as an evolution of the out-of-tree Reiser4 file-system code. While next week would mark five years of Reiser5, the Reiser4/Reiser5 file-system still appears effectively dead and hasn't been touched in quite a while...

The very last update on the topic. It's about Reiser5.

As long as his name is attached to it, his mere legacy will kill any progress to it. So Reiser5 is dead, just like his wife.

Nothing that has been open-sourced, can ever be dead.

One day it may randomly be updated and maintained by an enthusiast for a challenge and "giggles" linked to the name. The pretty grim history behind this might end up being the sole reason why reiserfs might one day outmaintain i.e extfs.

Michael was deliberately setting you up for that.

Too soon, though. Remember the 22.3 year rule.
