Phoronix: ReiserFS Has Been Deleted From The Linux Kernel

Linus Torvalds just merged the change to the Linux 6.13 kernel that goes ahead and deletes the ReiserFS file-system from the source tree. Removing ReiserFS from the Linux tree lightens the kernel by 32.8k lines of code...

can always stick to using a prior kernel version
As long as the system in question either receives kernel updates or it's isolated. And eventually there will be no supported kernels.

Those jokes have always been lame.

ReiserFS is unmaintained and unsupported and given that Linux is ever evolving (that's a nice way to say the Linux kernel is in a constant state of flux) one day it would be booted regardless. Nothing to do with Linus being anything or anyone.

Can't wait for bcachefs getting the same fate.

Mr. Murder could not work on MurderFS as he was, ya know, in prison for Murder. That is why its unmaintained and stuck in the past and became a burden to drag on.

Beside CoCs being generally shitty, all Kent Overstreet has to do is apologize because he actually insulted a other long term stable kernel maintainer. We all know that won't happen though, a person like Kent would never be able to say sorry. This is a CoC for once doing what it is supposed to do.

              ReiserFS has been murdered.
(sorry for the joke, but I am surprised it is not the first comment)

Yup, it only took almost 20 years...

I will simply carry a patch reverting the deleting as long as it reasonably possible to keep it compiling to access old disks from storage or backups, ... https://t2linux.com

It could have been a category killer.
