    After many years in the making, it finally was merged overnight... The real-time "PREEMPT_RT" kernel support was merged a few hours ago into Linux Git for this year's Linux 6.12 kernel!..

            Woha.. this is huge.

            Does anyone know if the open source Nvidia driver is compatible with PREEMPT_RT? The proprietary one was not..

              If NTSYNC would be merged too, this would be the perfect kernel release since it's also a LTS one!

                Awesome. Sometimes there's little that excites me personally about a new kernel release, but between this and sched_ext, 6.12 is looking really fun to tinker with. All the better that these things made it in if 6.12 is the next LTS, and great that things like Lunar Lake and BattleMage GPU support got enabled by default too.

                    Hmm Ubuntu is shipping a Preempt kernel for desktop with the PREEMPT_RT patches, but I guess the preempt model they're using is only PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY and not the full stuff.
